Offthe Ridge Cats

They earn their way!

The cats are so important to our family. We live in a very rural area that includes the wildlife that isn't so cute, such as mice, packrats, insects, spiders, and snakes. The cats keep us all safe! The porch kitties are our first defense against the vernine of the high desert.

Simba

Hi, I'm Simba. I love to sleep in my chair. I am a great mouser, when the porch kitties miss one. That doesn't happen very often but I am always at the ready when I am needed. I came to live here when I was 18 months old. My first human was unable to meet my needs as her job sent her very far away. Trish said that if I were here for a month she would "alter" me. Man, I didn't really understand that but I do now! Altering means that you climb the electric pole, put three of your feet on the transformer and then take the ride of your life through the air and slamming on to the ground. When you wake up you realize that your are a bit hurt. My tail wasn't quite right. I climbed under the house and waited for Trish to come home. She came home 2 days later. She brought me in the house and began to clean me up. My tail was very damaged and she called the vet. We got to the vet to find that my tail would have to be amputated but I didn't need to be "nuetered" the electricity had taken care of that problem. 10 months later I was back to normal but without my tail. Seven years later I hardly miss it! I just am a happy kickback cat!
