Is a Beagle Right for You?

So you want a beagle? Great! Let me tell you things about beagles. Let's start with the things that get beagles into trouble--

  • They love food! No if, ands, or buts about it! They live for food, they will be where food is, where it was, or where it might be in the future. They will get on the table, on the counter, or on the buffet to get to that wonderful food! It is amazing what they can do!
  • They shed, not just seasonal but all the time. There is always hair everywhere in our house, Regular grooming for the beagles helps but it never stops.
  • Beagles eat poop. There is no nice way to say this, they eat poop. Not all beagles do this but enough of them do that they have a reputation for eating poop. There are products you can buy to help curb this nasty habit, it may or may not help. If this is something that you could not live with then a beagle may not be for you.
  • Beagles can be barkers. Yes, I know this surprises you, but they will aarroo for many reasons. The least of which may be that someone is at your door. Some beagles bark at everything that moves, others bark only when there is a need to bark. This makes them not so good watch dogs, but I love hearing their song when I get home every night from work.

Still with me? Great! Let me tell the things about beagles that get them loved!

  • All of the above and...
  • They will make you happy when you are sad.
  • They will take long walks with you, they will sit quietly with you.
  • They can play fetch for hours.
  • They are so darn cute!
